Society for Special persons was formed by a group of youth with disabilities lead by a woman with disability with the courage to work for people with disabilities as independent and participative members of the general community.

Society for Special Persons’ works on Disability Management systems for people with disabilities, especially women with disabilities. Society for Special Persons (SSP) Introduced and launched different campaigns and initiatives for the empowerment of people with disabilities like “Accessible Pakistan” camping for the friendly Infrastructure for People with Disabilities (22 Oct 2011). In this regards major achievements are: Deputy commissioners in different Districts of Punjab issued the Nonfictions of Accessible infrastructure for people with Disabilities , CM Punjab notified the Accessible Metro Bus at Multan, State bank of Pakistan issued the policy Circular for the accessible banking infrastructure for people with disabilities, Introduced the concept of Customized Wheelchairs programme with the technical guidance of World Health organization and running a successful Wheelchairs manufacturing Setup, over all SSP has distributed almost 5000 thousand wheelchairs and assistive devices, Skilled Development Training programme.

SSP has engaged the trainees with disabilities in different trades (3 month & 6 Month courses) for their better livelihood:

  • 400 trainees with Disabilities received the certificates of Punjab Board of Technical Educations from 2019 to Dec 2021 through these skills development training programme ,
  • Special Sports Club of People with disabilities,
  • Wheelchair cricket Super League,
  • Wheelchair Basket and hand Ball in Pakistan,
  • and launched the first 13 May Women with Disabilities day”,
  • Self Help Groups of Women with Disabilities in thirteen district of southern Punjab and launched a Women with Disabilities and DPOs Network of Southern Punjab with World Health Organization, Punjab Welfare Trust for the Disabled, Social Welfare Department Punjab, and Akhawat Foundation.
  • Disaster Risk reduction,
  • Community based rehabilitation and Education (CBR) 250 Children with disabilities enrolled in this programme, especially children with intellectual disabilities.
  • 3000 people received food bags in flood relief 2010 and 1600 people with disabilities received food bags in COVID 19 look down, 1, 50,000 Masks stitched.
  • Scouting with Disabilities through this trained people with disabilities for Independent Living and registered a Group Society Scouts Open Group for Special Persons Multan under the Punjab Boy Scouts Association.
  • SSP provided the services regularly regarding the disability certificate and CNIC of People with Disabilities.
  • Society for Special Persons participated in the international conferences and workshops in USA, Bangkok, Thailand, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi, Malaysia. Participated the in the united national convention centre UNCC Bangkok, for the drafting of UNCRP in 2010 and in 2014, Beijing plus Review.
  • We have registered 15000 People with Disabilities in Multan Districts.

Government of Pakistan acknowledge SSP services through award of President Award, Fatima Jinnah women of the year’s award 2016 by Punjab Government, Young Leadership award by Ministry of Planning and Development and Reforms, Fakhr-e-Pakistan Award by Social Welfare Department and Bait-ul-Mall Punjab 2021

Strong efforts and struggle throughout for last fifteen years SSP are recognized nationally and internationally. Manufactured and distributed 2000 wheelchairs free of cost among persons with disabilities , specially the commode wheelchairs are distributed among the flood affected people with disabilities in 2022.

About project of Zubaida Ajmal Independent Living Centre for the welfare of women with disabilities (ZACIL):

Society for Special Persons has agreed to join efforts for the empowerment of the women with disabilities (PWDs) under the project of Zubaida Ajmal Independent Living Centre for the welfare of women with disabilities. We will work for the education and the training of girls with Disabilities; sign-language and Braille Classes, Provision of wheel chairs and accessible infrastructure. We will work on the Livelihood of women with disabilities for their economic growth and development. Alternate income generation training and skill development for women with disabilities.
